  A Life

So if you live for love and truth
Say a prayer for the aging youth
Say a prayer for mother too
Say a prayer that it ends with you.

If you could get into a mother’s brain
You’d find out quick she’s gone insane
She sees the world is closing in
Her little boy‘s becoming a man

And before too long he’ll be here too
Hand in hand next to you.

And one day he’ll look to the sky
And one day he’ll wonder why
Man treats man the way they do
And the mirror will reflect someone he never knew

And as that boy who became a man
Comes home from work one day
He’ll see a child in the street
And watch that child play

And from his eye a tear will shed
And from his mind his thoughts will be led
To a day when he was young
To a day when songs were sung

And then the boy who became a man
Will turn his back and say
A wish for the child in the street
That a child he’ll always stay.
